Welcome to Using SAS to Put Open Source Models into Production. My name is Jordan Bakerman. I’ve been using SAS, R, and Python since 2011 for a variety of educational objectives while pursuing my PhD in statistics. Here at SAS, I created and teach the SAS Programming for R Users course, which is designed as a cookbook-style, crash course in SAS programming to enable R users to easily transfer their skills.

In this course, I’ll show you how to include open source models in your SAS Enterprise Miner process flow. In Chapter 1, I’ll discuss open source software in general, and then we’ll model the course data using a random forest in SAS.

In Chapter 2, I’ll discuss R, its syntax, and how to connect SAS to R so they can communicate. Then I’ll show you how to use the Open Source Integration node, which recognizes R syntax and automatically transfers data between SAS and R. Finally, we’ll build an R model into our process flow.

In Chapter 3, I’ll discuss Python, and I’ll show you the steps to incorporate Python into our process flow using a series of SAS Code nodes. Finally, we’ll use the Model Comparison node for a final assessment of the SAS, R, and Python models.
